TOPIC: Grouse hunting and herb scouting

Grouse hunting and herb scouting 10 years 10 months ago #27070

Hi guys just thought we might need a change of pace. Anyway ive found grouse hunting to be a good winter way to scout new locations for herbs also a great time to ask permission from landowners. hunting grouse comes as close walking wise to ginseng hunting as anything ive ever done plus you can see what the area looks like without leaves hiding dangerous cliffs ect. from your veiw. It,s also a great time to reflect on the seasons past and future darn good exercise to.

Leebros!

I got started grouse hunting this season as soon as the normal season opened and it started early enough that I found quite a few plants that were at their beautiful \"Gold Stage\". You're sure right about being able to find lots of good locations that might not be as obvious to the eye when all the green vegetation is still on the trees and forest floor. For several years I've combined it with planting seed for the upcoming season. I move a little slower doing this , but I get a bird up every now and then. The problem we have where I hunt is, that there are many other types of hunters out and getting shot can be a problem. Bear, deer, grouse , woodcock, snipe and wild hogs bring a lot of heavy guns out at that time of the year. The mountains have gotten pretty rough in the last two to three weeks from bad weather and it brought my season to a halt.
