TOPIC: Double top Ginseng - Fish - Garden

Double top Ginseng - Fish - Garden 11 years 6 months ago #22761

Morning Guys...

Some of you may remember that last fall after tops were down I transplanted a couple of nice roots from the top of my seed producing bed to a nice location lower on the hill (in another hollow).

I took the picture below of those two nice roots.

Notice the bud spurs clearly seen and only 1 spur on each root.

Well a couple of weekends ago I went down to that location to check on those two roots to see if the tops were up yet and what they looked like...

Found this on one of those..

They were both up but not fully stretched out yet and one of those roots actually has a double top this spring.

There was only one bud spur visible the previous November, but the next April 2 nice 3 prong tops came up.

I wonder if the root developed another bud spur over winter ? or if two tops just came up out of that one spur ?

Anyway - it's clearly a double top this year - hope I get several nice berries off it this year.

I have a nice patch of \"wild honeysuckle\" or bush honey suckle (not sure what the official name is, but that is what we call them.

They flower looks just like a honeysuckle but they grow on a low bush and only bloom just a few weeks in spring.

Man they can sure cast a sweet smell across the backyard.

I also have a little Paulownia tree just off the back yard and it blooms about the same time.

Below shows how I remind my self to take a little seng and do that often...

I have a fancy little glass that I keep sitting on my home office desk. I just take a root out of my bag and break up the root hair, and then chip up the root and put it in this glass. I have a little paper cover lid that I can put on it to keep it covered when not in use.

I get a few chips or root pieces out of there just about every day and munch on them.

One last Pic.

Last Saturday I took Cole fishing over at one of our local TWRA Lakes.

They have a slot limit in place there on Bass... 13\"-18\" you have to toss back but you can keep anything under 13\" and can keep 1 over 18\" a day.

We did not catch a whole lot - 6 or 7... and we caught some we had to toss back (that was hard) especially for Cole - he caught a nice one almost 15\" long.

But we ended up with 3 nice little keepers and had a fine lunch that day.

Great looking property and plants TN. I have tried to munch on Seng last couple of years, but I cant seem to acquire the taste. Once again, I'll try it this year and will probably have the same results..
