I found some pictures of beth root with a google image search and it looked just like that...
I always just called that trillium... and it is a type of trillium. There is quite a bit of that around my place.

Found the info below on it on WebMD.

Beth root is a plant. The root, underground stem (rhizome), and leaf are used to make medicine.

Despite safety concerns, women take beth root for heavy and painful menstrual periods. Beth root is also used for reducing swelling and for breaking up chest congestion.

Some people apply beth root directly to the skin for varicose veins, ulcers, bruises, and bleeding hemorrhoids.

How does it work?
There isn't enough information to know how beth root works.

Beth root might be UNSAFE to take by mouth. It can cause irritation of the stomach and intestines, and vomiting.

There isn’t enough information to know if beth root is safe to apply to the skin. There have been some reports of skin irritation.

Special Precautions & Warnings:
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: It’s UNSAFE to use beth root during pregnancy. It might start menstruation or cause the uterus to contract. These effects could cause a miscarriage.

Heart conditions: Beth root contains a chemical that might make heart conditions worse. Don’t use beth root if you have heart problems

I just found an image that looks very much like it. It calls it Toadshade Trillium. Would it still be the kind you can sell if it is Toadshade Trillium?

Thanks,

mhowa,

The plant in your' pic is of Beth Root and not to be confused with Toadshade Trillium although both are of the Trillium family! Beth Root has solid light to medium green leaves with no mottling/spotting unless it is diseased or damaged while the Toadshade Trillium has generally darker green mottled/spotted leaves. I can't find much info on the medicinal uses of Toadshade Trillium, so I won't even try to answer that question.

In Canada we call it red trillium, the flower stinks like death but the seed pod smells like strawberries. A good companion plant.
