TOPIC: Big find

My grandfather was a good old man to think ahead for me.... This is the first one of his plants I have ever dug. and only because it was so close to property line I didnt want someone to see it from the other side of fence. There is at least 16 mor that we collect the berries from to plant every year. I know they are at least 70 years old. He said that he planted them at age 22 and he died at age 90.. That was 10 years ago also. so you do the math. My father never messed with ginseng. Grand dad took my brother and I out to the woods every year to plant the berries, from the time we were old enough to walk. Just weanted to show off the find and wish every one good luck this year.

But not sure if it is all that old.

From what I can see of the root neck it looks to be less than 10 years old.

Here is a image of a root that is in the 25 year old range showing the root scars which you can fairly easily count to get real close to the age of the root.

Sounds like you had a wonderful Granpa there.
