Finally got in the woods today and found my biggest root yet. Weighed in at 2.3 ounces. This plant didn't have a top. I guess the deer had eat it. Found it while digging a three prong right next to it.

Really it's more the east central part of the state about a 130 miles south of the TN state line.

Man that was a nice surprise...

I had that happen once today too... digging one root and found another nice one that did not have a top.

I found several in the 1 oz to 1.3 oz range today. That is good for my area.

That one you found there is a whopper.

It also could have been dormant this year, and you just happened upon it while digging. I've had that happen before to me.
