TOPIC: Nice Day, Nice Walk

Nice Day, Nice Walk 9 years 6 months ago #31865

I had a cpl hours free time yesterday morning, I had a hollow I hadnt been in this year so I headed to the woods!
I swear I had walked the same path several times over the past few years and had only seen a few small ginseng plants, but I walked right into a couple nice ones... looked around a bit and found more :)
Bad thing was I found some empty holes, good thing is he didnt look in the right places!

That is a nice looking root. Looks like it was trying to make a circle.

Did that come off a 3 prong ? If it did... really good for a 3 pronger.

Thanks guys, any walk in the woods is good.... finding some nice seng is better. :)

TNhunter, that was indeed a 3 prong, in fact it was the one in the pic above (2nd pic). See the little 2 prong in that pic? I had to move it to get to the root of the 3 prong... planted it back but it had a 2 inch neck with 19 bud scars... root was about the size of a lima bean! Makes me wonder about leaving that runt to reproduce, but I will check on it in years to come and see how it does.
Thanks for looking!

I made it out again today for a few hours... man those hillsides get steeper each year. ;)

Some of the ginseng in dryer areas or areas with more sunlight are turning yellow but a lot is still green.

The largest plants I found today were all 3 prongs.

On the way back out I looked at some plants I had passed by and left on the way in....I always bring my tops home with me for tea... I may have company in the woods? I hate finding empty holes on property I lease!
