Hi everyone. I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. I have hunted ginseng most of my life and am far happier in the woods than anywhere else. I have been reading some of the forums and it seems like most of you feel the same. I hope to make friends and learn from all of you.

Welcome to the forum porsche65...

This is definately a good place to learn about all things Ginseng, and more.

I have been hunting seng since around 1976... man that was a long time ago.

I can still see some big old 4 prongs I dug back in those days in my mind.

:-)

Seen you are from hancock co Tenn. Me and my two cousins. Stop and asked this old woman for permission to dig her land about 20. Years ago. She said doubt there is any ,her late husband usr to dig . I crossed a hollar ,after being in woods about 45 mins .all down both side of hollar was red berries pods standing every where ,it was like a dream. Took two and a half days ,for all three to dig it .waist high 3's and 4's was all you could see. I was drooling. Best patch I was ever in. And left aplenty to replenish . Would love to hit that place again:blink: )

Thanks all for the welcome. The last hunt of the season is past and I am already thinking about where I will go next year. Bellco Ky, if you want to be a little more specific about where that old lady lived I will gladly go check on the patch for you lol I am pleased to hear that there are responsible hunters on here. The area where I live has been hunted until there just isn't that much left. These guys around here will even dig the 3 leaf and the tiny 2 prongs.
I work a lot but managed some fun hunts this year to Scott County, Gatlinburg, Cosby and quite a few hunts close to home. I would love to post some pictures but they site says they are too large. I will keep working on it.

How about telling us about the 7 or 8 prong that is your' Avatar pic??!! I have found and dug not only 3 and 4 prongs but also dug quite a few 5, 6, 7 and 8 prongs when I was 17 years old. There maybe some more of the old ones left but they are getting extremely rare and hard to find.

I didn't pay close attention to the picture I posted. Although I wish it was a monster its just 2 4 prongs. I think its just how they were being held that makes it look that way. I will try to get another one put up because that one is very misleading.

Here is a picture from a hunt last year. I honestly dug until my hands bled but I loved every minute of it.
