My husband found a ginseng root that had 9-3 prongs attached 27 prongs total. The root was estimated at 130+ years. He dug several other roots around it all being 3 to 9 oz.s. Apparently it was the mother root. We preserved it in Georgia moonshine in the '07 season. My son also found one that was 13oz. and 27inches long estimated to be around 50years old.It also has been preserved in moonshine. Each year they dig mostly 20+ year old roots. We are looking for potential buyers for the old one and the large one.
There are attempts being made to organize a National Ginseng Association that would allow people in your situation to sell to buyers further along the chain then currently availabe to you. There are people in the orient that will pay big bucks for roots like you are describing. If you have a ginseng dealers license (which you should be able to get if you do not have one yet), I believe you can export yourself. Just use caution with local dealers that might try to buy the roots from you at less than what they are worth. That would be exciting to find roots like you are describing. Pictures would be very much appreciated here.
