Brad- Yes, I have dug root during the growing season to inspect the growth. Actually, I couldn't keep myself from looking under the leaf clutter to see how things were progressing below the soil level.
Roots there look anything but cultivated. No discolrations, lots of hair roots splitting off the main root, and a generally healthy looking little root.
