If you use wild ginseng as me tn and latt do it is an exceptional idea because even after the use of the root for your consumption you still get to plant seed from your berries every season and the water root willl absoloutly grow another main root in a shorter time than one might imagine.

Latt posted from the start that he consumed that root of course any exsperienced digger wouldnt break the coil off and then sell to the market this is for ones very on use and not for the market,it is win win for a guy like me to eat and to grow and reproduce,I have about 50 of them and a few have good roots back on them now,but it is still to soon to dig them, but in a couple years lord willing i will show you a couple photos of this.

Thanks again fellas,
5Prong brought up a good point and I wish I could remember better. I can't remember if the root neck I planted had the small water root growing off the neck or if it didn't when I planted the neck last year. I just assumed the water root growing off the neck was new growth but it may have already been there.

Billy, does this work either way with or without a water root coming off the neck? I saw your post about having 50 of them growing with replanted root-necks so you have had a lot of experience with this.
Thanks,

I'm no expert by any means, but I would say that the new roots develop off of root buds, not off of existing feeder or water roots. So, if you replant a neck, it shouldn't matter if it shows any root hairs or not, it most likely will bud out new roots and continue to grow - assuming conditions are right, such as moisture, etc.

Just my .02 worth from a plant background, though not a specialization in ginseng plants.

Will be interesting to see folks' experiences over the next several years with this! k

The water root does grow into a larger root when this is done and any neck of size has water roots on the neck the strength goes to them.
