Thats pretty good for your nine yr old boy to plant seeds for that long.

My youngest boy, eight yrs old finds too many things to distract him when he's in the woods.

I think you have pursuaded me to try planting the rest of my 1/4 lb of seeds using my long handled fox trapping trowel. It's only about 2 1/2\" wide, but I think I could make it work with a pvc pipe attached to it. That way I could plant areas that are too small for raking.

I'll try something new!

Thanks,

I'm going to try that sharpshooter shovel and pvc pipe method, looks promising, however I think longer than the rake method. It looks promising.

The biggest problem I have on my patch is that once the soil is bared of leaves [after raking] the rake bounces off a lot of clutter that is there. Maybe my soil was too hard, however it was certainly difficult to penetrate.

That's why I think that narrow shovel looks so promising? Taping the 1\"pvc to it is just genuis!
