TOPIC: Pics from 06/17-18/2011 berries, 3 leafers, wild patch, root harvest

TNhunter, you just keep on making the videos and taking pics. I have been enjoying every bit of your material. Love the tea ideas, too. When I harvest, I use a large ziploc bag for all my stems and leaves. My tea comes from the dry leaves and stems after a hamburger grinder has had its way with it. I always eat fresh leaves when I'm in the woods and found the dry stems are good chewing like a toothpick. My favorite is the berries! Big red juicy fresh berries. Thanks again for all your inputs.

four prong,

Glad you have enjoyed the pic's and vid's some.

I have never kept any tops when I seng hunt but will start doing that this year.

Your idea of a big zip lock bag to store them in and using a meat grinder to grind it up for tea - I will sure try that.

When I do harvest some red berries off my seed producing bed - I am going to plant some of them as berries (maby 1/4), but others I plan to stratify. On the ones I stratify I will first squeeze the seeds out of the red berry then I will have some fresh red berry pulp to try out.

I have never tried eating a red berry - always plant them whole with the seed inside when harvesting wild seng.

I will have to look around and see if I can find some type of recipe or suggestions on how to best use ginseng berry pulp (other than just eating it fresh).

Thanks

TNhunter

Do you find that the ziplocs keep it fresh enough? I always use a vacuum sealer when I'm harvesting.

What kind of meat grinder are you using?

The meat grinder I use for various tea grindings is a five dollar yard sale special. Old hand crank one that clamps to the table. It has near 1/4 inch holes on the head. She will even grind Sassafras roots. The Ziploc bags are just to keep the leaves and stems clean while on the trek.

Very nice 'sang photos you got there! It's really nice to see an working operation. I guess that you have plenty of land to plant on.

That root looks great, plump and full of vitality. I'll have to try the tea.
