TOPIC: Can anyone identify this plant?

Can anyone identify this plant? 10 years 5 months ago #25305

I have been out in the woods taking inventory of seng, yellowroot and bloodroot. I have been keeping an eye out for snakeroot and false unicorn. I found a few little plants that have a seed stalk similar to false unicorn but after hours of searching the internet I have yet to find out a name for it. Check out the picture and if you can help put a name to it I would appreciate it.

I remember it as pipsissewa. not a 100% sure, long time ago. I'll see if I still have my book on wild plants some where in my closet. I'll let you know if I find it and am sure.

Thanks Cohosh,
I looked up pipsissewa and although its the closest match so far I think this is something different. The leaf edges are very smooth and the plant is fleshy not woody. I have found three seperate bunches of them, on three different north slopes, all close to seng. They may be the remnant flowers of old bench garden sites of my ancestors. I plan on digging a few and replanting where I can keep an eye on them. Oh by the way, the cohosh is doing better than anything else in my neck of the woods.

Thanks Guys,
Thats definitely it. The rattlesnakes are thick here so what a fitting name. Thanks again for the help. Now all I have to do is collect some of the seeds and see if I can get them to grow. Order from the wife.

I\"m pretty sure it is a rattlesnake orchid. I had one I moved into a woodland bed once. It put up a stem of very small orchid-like flowers.
