TOPIC: 2017 Ginseng season

Chieftain same here in Central Il. Hot & very dry. I have gotten a couple of pounds of early ripening seeds, but they are showing a lot of stress, wilting, and some of the green berries are starting to shell off the pod. If it doesn't rain soon I may try to water some of my native strain I have in a seed production bed. If I can get it to post, here's a picture of some of the berries I have got.

The mice have gotten a lot more berries than I have! I have managed to keep the deer out of my seed production beds, but they have been real hard on my wild simulated.

Got 4/10th just before daylight this morning. It perked things up a bit. Just south of us didn't get anything.

We have had a good growing year down her in southern middle TN.

From spring thru early July I did not have to water my garden any... had good and frequent rains.

Then early July thru now we have had some really hot strings and dry strings too. But today we got a GOOD long shower.

I checked my seed bed plants last week and they were looking good, lots of big fat green berries on now.

Last year we got a lot of good rains in August (which is unusual) and boy that made for a really good ginseng berry crop. Hope that repeats again this year.

And about a month ago I started a salt lick in the edge of my field, just past the edge of the back yard.
