I started planting these patches in my home county 5 years ago. At the time, all you had to do was to get a permit and you could dig all the ginseng you could find. These patches were my small way of giving back something to the county to help add some money back into the economy and help the struggling ginseng population. I expanded them on into surrounding counties and then the Forest Service began changing regulations to where we are now. It's a big loss to the county. They were supposedly thinning out the timber.
