73 degrees outside now here at my house...

Now that's more like it. That will start those little 3 leafers up on their way.

It came on up a bit more reaching 75 degrees here today and the next few days the highs are supposed to be 68, 62, 71... then it is supposed to cool down a bit, but not real bad.

I am going to check my wild sim plantings tomorrow and just see if any crazy early ones are up. I doubt it, but will take a look anyway.

It's going to be awhile here in southeastern Ky. on ginseng. I usually don't see emergence until the middle of April and later on truly wild native plants. I have been seeing a lot of trillium ( beth root ) popping up. The feeling of spring has really got me anxious as I know everybody else is anticipating the new growth of their plantings.

Well... it is 77 degrees now at my house... Nice !

I got out and looked at several of my wild sim beds around 10 am this morning and as expected found none up today.

If it keeps up these sunny warm days there may be some up by next weekend.

PS.. I did get some work done in my garden, planted some potatoes and got another bed worked up where I am going to plant some lettuce, carrots, onions.. (perhaps next weekend).

Maya,
LOL, I know ya'll northern folk get tired of hearing about our early Springs down here. On the other hand, we sure wished we had your Summers about July and August.

I got out yesterday, nothing up yet but the earliest Spring plants. I applied weed killer to the entire plantings (new and old), I had a pretty good amount of Bedstraw weed last year. It's just now peeking through the leaf litter, I aim to be shed of that mess. It doesn't kill ginseng but it sure will cover it up for half the year and weigh it down. I pulled a bunch last year and waited a little too late to do it. Everytime I would grab some, hundreds of seeds would fall and sounded as if a handfull of salt were being pitched out. Im sure there is some still to come that I will miss but this will help alot. I hated to wait any longer and risk hitting some Ginseng with the spray later, with the rain moving in today, it should wash the residue off and put me in the clear.

Re:Springtime!!!!!! first 3 leafer ? and youtube video 11 years 8 months ago #22251

Hey Guys...

We had some nice warm days (got near 80 one day)... and then a good slow rain this morning. It cooled off a little but still real nice. This evening it cleared off some and I got out and made a few pictures and checked out another place that Cole and I planted a couple beds of wild sim.

First pic... one of my plum trees - starting to show off !

Next pic... not sure what these are called but they show up early spring in my yard - a sea of tiny purple flowers.

Now on to the possible 3 leafers...

I have a ? and say possible because I am not real sure these are 3 leafers.

They are tiny, just up, and have not fully unfolded and stretched out. Sort of hard to tell for sure.

Here is the first one I found.

It does have the start of a 3 leaf set and the jagged edges you see on 3 leafers and the leaf color looks about right.

Here is another pic from the side that shows the stem better..

What do you think ?
