Re:Morel Mushroom Hunting 13 years 6 months ago #9445

Great pics Billy.
Those sure are some nice yellows!

Huntndig,
Those are some nice looking morels too.

We are just getting started up here and it looks like is going to be a good one.
Good luck everyone.

Latt, Billy, Huntdig - way to go guys...

I am \"GREEN\" with envy :-)

I pardon'd the turkeys and small mouth bass this morning for a shroom hunting trip instead.

It was a great morning and I look for about 3 hours but STILL NOT ONE SINGLE MOREL :-(

I went to a different location today, quite different than my home place here. This place was a big creek bottom area next to a large creek (averages 30-40'wide).

There were lots of (non oak trees) in that area, sycamores, ash, boxelder, etc.

I found a few decent dead sycamore trees and several dead cedar trees and lots of other trees that had been killed by beaver (like the one in the image below) and I found lots of shrooms, but no morel's.

Here is another huge dead tree (not sure what kind) but it had shed most of it's bark and there was a huge area under it covered in little tiny shrooms, but no morels.

Now near the end of my hunt - when I got around that big creek bottom and back near the road. The elect company had cleared some new paths for electric poles and right near the highway there was some huge piles of mulch where they had chipped up trees and branches.

Part of that was just covered in this type of shrooms.

Can you ID these for me ?

Are they good to eat ?

I did not collect any but there is a bunch there and it is right near the road.

Here is several in a wad.
