RSkid,

Congrats to your grandson on a nice root and top! It looks like you have a fine Ginseng hunting and digging partner!

That's such great experience getting the youngsters out in the woods and allowing them to develop the passion so early in life. Love the digging tool as well. Good luck for the rest of the season!

Rskid... that is sure a fine looking grandson.

Congrats on spending the time with him in the outdoors.

Great looking hillside with all those ferns, and some good looking dirt too.

Thanks guys for the replies... it means a lot to him for others to comment. :)
The little guy just has a feel for the woods, he knows a lot of plants, can tell me what animal tracks we see and definitely knows bear poop when he sees it! LOL
I've been teaching him to only dig mature ginseng and plant the berries, leave the little stuff to grow and NEVER take it all... take what we need and leave some for seed.
The antler digging tool is something he and I made and is totally his, I use a lightweight maddock that was my great granddads 'seng hoe. (I guess its a family tradition!)
That hill side does look good but you should see the hollow below it... steep as a cows face but a woodsmans paradise.

thanks for looking

The Grandson got me out early again this morning. Walked a long way on some steep hillsides and found a few \"bunches\". only one had a cpl berries left... the turkeys have torn up the hillsides around here!

Here he is with a nice 3 prong he located.
