I think I'm with you on this one. I have found ginseng in every type of imaginable soil, between big rocks that required excavation ( so to speak), on shelf rock and even in old dump piles of long gone home places. I'm not sure soil type is really the main factor of where it grows. I have noticed the type of soil does seem determine how fast or slow the root grows. You know, the dense little knobby root vs. long spindly carrot type. And YES. I've fallen asleep many times \"seeing\" ginseng.
