TOPIC: Kentucky Season Moved Up

Kentucky Season Moved Up 13 years 6 months ago #11062

Hey guys i talked with Anna Lucio from the Ky Department Of Agriculture last week and she had informed me that Ky's digging season has moved up to the first of September. She said that everything had went through but she was just waiting on something. Sorry i don't know exactly what she was waiting on but she told me to call back this week to find out more.

The reason i called her i was waiting on my dealer's license and they still hadn't came. Which was odd because Anna is usually on top of her game. And thats why she was holding everyones license because they were some changes coming this year. She told me she was hoping everything would hurry up and work out before it got any later.

She also told me that buying season for green seng would start September 1 and for dry ginseng it would be September 15.

Hey hillbilly

I had posted that around 2 weeks ago and that was what Anna had said, but the website still states the season as it has always been..............

www.kyagr.com/marketing/plantmktg/Ginseng.htm

If they dont get this posted soon it will cause alot of conflict with the diggers and confusion it is getting very close to season to make a all of a sudden descison.

Some diggers who do not use internet etc will be digging untill they come to the dealers to sell and they have to tell them this.

I re e-mailed Anna and exspect a return letter from her after wesnesday with some questions on this subject. She will not get the e-mail untill then.Anna has been very helpful to me and I agree she is usaly on top of everything.

I do not think that this was something she could do alone and that is what is causing the delay in my opinion.

Billy.

Another odd thing to me is this

If they move season up for digging how would they leave the buying for ginseng as it is already

If the ginseng can not be dug untill 2 weeks later, then it would seem that the buying time would have to advance as well to accomedate the digging season.

It is odd

I am 100 o/o for the movement to Sept 1st for digging I just dont think that waiting so long to do it is going to be confusing this year for alot of people.

It is the last of July and we do not realy no how to post the digging date on our websites etc.

Billy i agree its a whole lot of confusion. I aint blaming Anna though she is very helpful and nice. She works very hard.

But i believe the only people this is going to hurt is the dealers. What happens on the 15 when we have to turn people away or do we. Will we get in trouble if something is changed but not yet posted. Or do we make the digger mad when we turn him away and loose his business. Because we all know that they are a lot of buyers out their that don't go buy the rules and they will be the ones getting the business. And you really can't blame the diggers right now times are tough.

If anyone hears anything let me know. I was suppose to call her back on Tuesday. She told me she would be out of the office until then so maybe she has some clarification on some things.

I agree that Anna is a very nice person and I like her alot to.

If it is not posted and we have not got a letter to declare it by Aug 15th I will not turn the diggers away, nor should I if it is not made clear in time to reconise it,but I think that it will be made clear and hopefuly very soon.

I agree Billy, that everything will work out here shortly. Though it does have a lot of dealers confused and some mad that I have talked too. But they need to understand that they have one woman in Frankfort trying to do everything they are in trying to run the ginseng department. Talk about to much of a workload.

But i will try to keep everyone on hear up to date on any changes, and as of now i am going to go and get that big ol Four prong i've been watching ever since mushroom season. I have probably imagined what that root looks like a thousand times. In mid April Billy the plant struck me at my knees and had a stalk big as my thumb and since then it has growed even bigger than that. It amazed me at the size so early in the season.

Anyways guys just everyone keep their ears open and listening and i will too.
