The guys here seem to like sharing their experiences of hunting 'sang... I am a grower, hand haven't done much hunting.

This is not the biggest seng I ever found but best I have pic's of. This was from a hunt last Sept 3 (on my birthday). I made about a mile treck thru some regular woods finding decend seng, mostly OK 3 prongs, but then got down to the creek where there is a 200' limestone bluff that faces due east.

When I went around that bluff I found some real nice seng growing in rock chip filled soil.

Here is a few examples. They were getting real good morning sun, then nice shade the rest of the day.

I am going back down to that bluff this year to look around again and collect a soil sample. Most of them had really nice roots in the 1.5 - 1.0 oz range, and were only 5-8 years old.

In the pic below you can start to see the kind of rock chip filled soil that they were growing in. All plants found there had big broad leaves and looked quite different (stouter) than the plants I find in the average woods.

Here is the first 4 I found that day - notice the rocky soil where I dug that root up.

Here is another up close of one of the roots harvested.

All those root hairs - obviously a very happy seng root.

All of those bluff roots growing in that rocky soil had short stout bulby roots, some had multiple forks and multiple bulbs.

Here is what my haul looked like on the scales at the end of that hunt.
