TOPIC: In the future...

In the future... 13 years 2 months ago #15996

...when someone is asking why dealers don't interact with diggers on this forum, or why they don't actively post prices and answer your questions, all you need to do is look at the way this click-ish, group has reacted to dealers who did try to interact this year. The ginseng market continues to change. If we as diggers are unwilling to listen to the new information, or the way they want their final product -of which we are the producers- then don't whine and cry about you getting poor prices for your ginseng. The same thing goes for dealers. If you insist on doing things the same way you have for 30 years and won't listen to the information from above in your channel, you will continue to get poor prices or be ignored when its time to sell.

Why should China or anyone else pay what you demand for a product they want a certain way, and you aggressively tell them they will get it the way you feel like producing it and they will buy it that way at your price regardless?

Is it any wonder why the Asians have not actively entered the market this year?

Castle in your opinion why has the market changed so much in the last few years? The ginseng hasn't changed. Is it a newer generation of asian buyers?

I sold my ginseng yesterday. Sat and talked with the buyer a long time and have alot of respect for the man. I know he gave me top dollar for what I had and he knew what he could get out of it. He is in it to make a living not a killing. I don't blame the small buyers they don't choke down the price.

Is the year to year price diffrence caused more by the supply/demand factor or the finacial stability of the Asians?

I can't honestly say for sure Tomzr2. What I do know is that they are having some financial issues just as we are. I also know that I have two seperate sources of information coming out of the Asian markets, and they concure that there is a ton of left over material from last year, and that there is still little or no interest for high priced commercial quality root. Only the higher end stuff is moving still at this point, and it is selling for less than commercial sold for last year.

As for the markets changing, I think it is just a natural progression. Just as we have the opportunity to be better informened producers, the consumers have the ability to be better informed buyers. In the end, what ever they want is what we need to have to sell them. If they don't want what we have, they will not buy it at all or will severely discount the price they are willing to pay.

I wish it was as simple as digging a root with a price tag on it!

I'm glad to hear that you were happy with the price you got for your root.

With the internet access it's going to be harder for the small dealers to buy anything.

It's like I tell some of the diggers that has large quantites of seng that's wanting higher prices, you can get as much as I can out of it from the larger dealers.

I still agree, that premium prices starts with premium harvesters.

This year doesn't look good for any of the dealers as far as really making much profit.

The diggers are the true winners.
