TOPIC: Seeds Dried Up On the Plant??

Seeds Dried Up On the Plant?? 9 years 8 months ago #29407

A couple of weeks ago, Ma checked the 'sang patch in South Dakota and was pleased to see lots of bursting green seed heads. Two weeks later, the heads were dried and shriveled.

Did she simply miss the \"ripe\" period? Can she expect or hope for more seed production?

It might be a while before I get back to this forum. Two hurricanes are bearing down on us here in Hawaii and it's going to be a bumpy, windy, rainy weekend!

Thanks for your insight!

First...stay safe there!

South Dakota seems like it might be a little bit hot and dry for ginseng. However, based on your post, let me say that first there are second chances in the season...only one flower and seed head -it either makes it or it doesn't. Next, if the berries are red, plant them. I'm sure they will be ok. If they are shriveled up green, that might be a problem greater than the loss of a couple seeds.
