TNhunter 2016 Fishing 8 years 3 weeks ago #38135

I got out and did a short wade in a small local river this morning...

Going to eat good tonight.

Got a couple nice smallies and a couple of black perch.

Check this out... the view down the throat of that larger small mouth bass.

It had a mouth full of BIG craw dad and still hit my rapla x-rap.

Nice fish! Couldn't help but notice the tender leaves on the tree behind you. Gonna be cold tonight!

Went fishing Saturday morning and the nice small river I usually wade was up and running from the rain we had late last week.

It was really too fast and the water was really dingy but I got in anyway and gave it a try.

Managed to catch one nice small mouth bass.

It was also opening day for turkey season... and while I was fishing there was a nice gobbler that came down to the river bottom and got fairly close to me. He was gobbling like crazy.

Then when I got home, there was one gobbling in the woods behind my house.. I have been seeing him for a week or two crossing my field following a hen.

Now I have both smallmouth bass and turkey to eat this week.

The gobbler had a 10\" beard and 1\" spurs. I did not weigh him, but he was plenty heavy.

Got to love SPRING !

Mr. Tom...

That old single barrel shotgun, I bought with fur money back in the 80's. It is a 30\" full choak, H&R.

It has killed many a Tom turkey, lots of squirrel, fox and a few bobcat.

It is old reliable, when that hammer falls, there is meat on the table.

Thanks Hobbler...

Chief - I bought a H&R 10 guage, with 36\" full barrel back in the late 80's.

I thought I would use it for fox calling and crow calling...

But man that 36\" barrel was just too heavy. I could not swing it on something like a crow flying over. And it was too heavy to hold up long at all - like when you are trying to wait out a turkey that is coming in.

I have seen them made for turkey hunting with the shorter barrels and I am sure that would work much better.
Probably kicks like a mule though.
