TOPIC: NEED RAIN

NEED RAIN 11 years 5 months ago #24404

We are so dry again this year its like digging in concrete. Which I hate as you start digging 1'-2' from the plant base but because it breaks apart like concrete its really hard to prevent the roots breaking apart WHEN THE SOIL BREAKS UP. I'VE TAKEN TO POUNDING THE SOIL FIRST to try and get it pulverized some before I dig down to prevent the roots breaking off the stem sections of the roots and necks. Really wish we could be hit with a days good rain. Everythings wilted except moist bottom ground and 10% or more of the plants are dried out deep gold color or just a dead stem with another 20% or so already fully golden yellow color. Hate to season a early end to the season again. We are in another drought big time here at the end of the year.
Hope everyone else is getting a little rain and can spare some to come here.

Thanks Hobler I was blessed with 1 1/2hours of steady rain while in the woods today. Made the soil extremely pliable and not a single broken neck or root from the ground braking like cement. I've never been so happy to have wet squeaky boots as I was today. 7:30-2pm yielded 3.1lbs wet so I'm happy as that's basically a pound dry.
