TOPIC: Finally!!!

Finally!!! 11 years 5 months ago #24197

Hey guys well finally I found my first ginseng today. Went out this am and hunted for about 4 hrs. I dug 42 plants all nice 3 prongs and found 3 nice 4 prongs. Replanted all berrys I left several and plan to get back in the area soon. I was STOKED :) I did have a few questions approximately what is the wet to dry percentage and I'll take any tips on drying and handling.

Hey there 4runner,

Welcome to the bug...err..club ;)

Hunting ginseng certainly gets under your skin and becomes a life-long bug for most of us.

We've discussed drying elsewhere in the past day or so, so I\"m sure you'll find your answers there. First and foremost, never use a brush on ginseng. Only wash off the surface/loose dirt and leave the dirt in the rings as that is desirable.

There are pictures and instructions around the web, but I'm not able to link them from this forum.

Bcastle thanks I'll look around to find some info. I'm going to try to post a pic. Here in VA its now mandatory I think plants must be a 3 prong to take some I found today had nice roots some not so great is there another way to judge these guys before digging?
