In that case, why not take a few of the smaller roots with fibers to eat, then re-plant the root for later years??!! I am sure that if you are careful with it, it will not only survive to come up for many years to come, it will also grow new roots to replace the ones severed. Just think of what it might look like and weigh in at in say another 5 to 10 years!
