Hey guys as I suspected the pods where mostly still to green to dig at this time except for a few plants that had a few red berries and full sized green berries that I can use the steam method to make sure they still fall that we had discussed last season.Any way I dug 4 Ozs with my buddy in Tn: today but left alot more than i dug,the new spot was productive, and very green, most plants berries are still to immature for harvest ( this is very important to me ) I left alot more than I dug,So did He.

Here is some photos of a few of the nice bunches and small patches.

Pretty Little 4

I had a good time out walking in the woods today over in Tn: with my buddy, even though we didnt dig much I sure got to scratch my itch just a little bit lol and had a great time.

I herd a animal moving near me and stoped,2 deer where close enough for a bow shot and I watched them trot off, prety cool,to finish the day.

That sure is some nice seng plants Billy. I had always put my seng stalk back in the soil with any green berries left on the seed head. I know many of you already know this but the seng berries ripen from the bottom of the seed head first. I have found many seed heads on diggers that had were 80% ripe with 20 % still green on top the seed ball. I had always stuck the stalk in the ground so the stalk could suck the moisture up and ripen the green seeds over time.
I remember TNhunter posted a thread about planting green seeds verses sticking the stalks back into the ground to ripen the green seeds. It stated that green seeds have a much better chance of surviving if planted verses leaving them to fall off the stalk and to lay on top the soil once they ripen. So I now plant any remaining green seeds on a seed ball if any are there.
I try to wait to dig until all seeds are ripe. But sometimes they are not all ripe even if 80% of them are.

looks and sounds like you had a great time Billy. Glad you got to scratch that itch a little:) I got out this am and planted quite a few berries. I'd guestimate that maybe 20% were red. Anyways found a pretty good looking plant even if only a 3prong.

I'm dying to dig a few:S

Here is one of my transplanted wild roots in my seng bed out back in my shade garden. That white stuff on the ground is crushed egg shells. It helped keep the slugs off. They do not like to crawl across it and the deer do not like the smell of egg shells. Plus egg shells are made of calcium carbonate which will ad calcium to the soil when it breaks down. You can get a lot of egg shells from an egg farm. There are many in TN.
