TOPIC: Anyone still planting seed ?

Anyone still planting seed ? 11 years 11 months ago #21793

I just ordered another pound. :-)

It should arrive on Friday and I plan to plant a few hours on Saturday.

Then the next week I have Wed/Thurs/Friday off and then the following Monday/Tuesday for the Christmas Holiday.

Our weather has been great hear lately, not too cold, no ground freeze at all.

It did rain yesterday and today and cooled off some though.

My 10 day forecast is showing mostly highs in the mid to upper 50's and lows in the mid to upper 30's.

Should be fine for planting.

TN, I couldn't help myself and just had to order more seed last week. Planted almost a lb. and got another lb. to plant. I've got a north facing slope at about 1600 ft. elevation and the ground is as black and loose as can be. If it doesn't grow there it will not grow anywhere. I still added gypsum though.

Yep,
Still planting here. It had really gotten dry here and we are finally getting the rains
that we have been needing. I really think planting success is much higher in my area when I wait long enough that there is not much chance of seed drying out. Early Fall planting has been a problem every year. This year I have watered up through yesterday to be sure about not having planting failures again. I wish you fellows success.

I agree there Hugh. I still have mine to plant and will set in on it this weekend after the ground dries up a bit. Just out of curiousity, since there was talk of a shortage, what has everyone been paying for seed this year?

Hillhopper..

I paid 112.00/lb for seed about 3 weeks ago, and paid the same price for this second shipment a bit ago.

I just finished planting yesterday. Got it done just in time...its been raining since then, and possibly changing to snow overnight. Quite honestly, I'm happy to be done. It seems like i havent had time to take a deep breath since mid August.....really looking foreward to see what spring brings....Only 4 1/2 months to go:laugh:

On average I've been paying about $90 a lb. for seed.

I have some more coming as well. However, don't think I'll be able to get it into the ground until after the holidays.

I paid an average of $85.-/;b for what I planted this year.

Fellas you are inspiring me to order a pound or two. Sounds crazy but I do enjoy having seed on hand and being able to look at it with the anticipation of getting in the woods to plant it.
Good luck guys,
Latt

I have broadcasted a few thousand seeds so far in some great spots that just have not been bearing root the past few years do to over harvesting or the lack of the root not being there to begin with you guys know what I mean them spots where you just know that their should be ginseng but it is not for as much ginseng as i do no where is their is many places where I think it could be if giving the chance at least i am interested in knowing and the effort is easy enough.....

What I am doing this season is just for the woods just trying to give back I have not even racked the leaves over this seed in total I will have distrubted about 35,000 + seed this season and many diferent areas that I have hope for in the future for the boys or others who may find them....

Since the ones that I put out in the past three seasons have done well I am interested in how all these seeds will do in the briar thickets and rocky areas of good soil and how well they will do on there on in the wild no help I am thinking if they do well that I may broadcast double that next season.

Best of luck to all of you guys with the seed and your ventures I admire many of your work efforts and do not talk alot on these topics but I do read them I often ask the Lord to bless all the work that has gonse into the many labors of people on this forum for doing their part to restore and not just take but try to give it is a blessing to me and I am glad that I know many of you on a more personal basis now than just as posting friends on this site I am happy to be a small part of trying to give back to the woods that have giving so much to me in my life and that will continue to give to me for the rest of my life How good is it to be apart ofsomething like that ?

Billy.
