TNHunter- Great looking beds, and your usual excellent prep work. I wish I had the clear of a woods.

Thanks Guys...

I had a little free time this morning and hit the woods again. I only took 4 oz of seed with me and I planted 3 beds and used all of that up.

I have to be at my Corp Office for a big Thanksgiving Dinner at Noon... so I got started early and only took enough to plant a little while.

This is just on down the hollow a bit from what I planted yesterday. I planted 3 beds but only took pic's of 2 of them. First one below.

And this one below is just down the hollow a bit more.

Again the soil was nice and moist under all those leaves and worked up good with my old saw tooth leaf rake.

PS - Whitt - I do consider my self lucky to have such easy places to plant - especially when I see all the work you have to do to clear a spot for planting. At most right now all I do is look for a place where the saplings are not so thick. I usually just pull out the small ones, and sometimes plant around the others.

I have 4 oz of seed left from that pound, so will plant another 2-3 beds probably tomorrow morning and then have the rest of the week for deer hunting. Cole is off from school on Wed-Thurs-Friday.

I have another week off work just before Christmas and plan to get another pound or possibly two in the ground then.

Sorry Whitt - but here in Middle TN - we don't have mountains - just hills and hollows.

In the county I live in the average ridge top is in the 1000' elevation range, and the hollow bottoms in the 700' elevation range.

Nothing really big enough to call Mountains, just hills and hollows.

I got that first pound of seed planted... and well... you know how it is.

You are looking forward to getting it done, but when you get down to those last few seeds, you are wishing you had more :-)

TN: those seeds look like they were stratifyied proper, nice embryo's. Last weedend I finished planting ours, we were watched by deer all day, a young buck fell in love with my jeep and wouldn't leave till we got out. Then it just walked away. I didn't get a tag this year and they are bouncing all over our land.
On another note a few weeks back someone asked if you can still scout for roots, I tried it and yes you can. Look for a white to grey stem comprised of many vertical strands stickin up an inch or two above the leaves plus the prior years stem. It was hard but sure beat hunting with the bugs.
We have had a few snow falls already this week so thats this season over.

Another pound of seed -- again nice embryo ! 11 years 11 months ago #21888

Ordered seed on Monday evening late... and it arrived in the mail today.

Another good looking batch of seed, many many seed smiling :) and only 32 floaters out of a pound after 10 minutes.

Cut a couple open to check embryo and again, nice, large, embryo showing up.

Will be planting some of these tomorrow on Saturday, and some next week too.
