Big ole Saw Tooth leaf rake 12 years 22 hours ago #21623

Hey Latt...

I really do have a big old saw tooth leaf rake.

See pic below...

It does a great job of raking leaves - Plus you can run it side to side as you pull it slowly towards you and it breaks up the top soil nicely too.
Notice how nice and fluffy the soil is in this lil bed I planted this morning.

Big ole saw tooth leaf rake 12 years 22 hours ago #21624

I had a regular leaf rake when I first started planting wild sim and it really did not work all that well and a couple years ago I found ole saw tooth at Lowe's and bought it. It is 30\" wide and It has a 25 year warranty too.

If you are looking for a good one for planting wild sim - this one is great. A few details below..

TN, that is the same kind of rake I use as well. I didn't know what they were called. Yes they work great and can take a good bit of abuse for a plastic rake. I think they work better than the metal rakes.

5prong, Black Cohosh is a great idea. I got some from lenno this spring sand it transplants fantastic!! You are right it would provide excellent shade without crowding out the ginseng.

I made a purchase of 500 seeds of Black cohosh yesterday. Found them on fleabay, for very inexpensive...

My reserach says that these need a overwintering/stratification period similar to our favorite herb. It'll be perfect in patch two.

Thanks for the good ideas, guys.

Wish you good luck Whit. Ive heard that cohosh like goldenseal can be difficult to get started by seed, but you seem to have a pretty good green thumb :) you may want to get a few older plant starts in the spring though because the ones started from seed wont be big enough to provide much shade for a few years...

I found some Black Cohosh rootstock on fleabay for a bit more than the seed I bought. Got 20 of those on the way. Maybe these will grow a bit faster than the seed.
