TOPIC: One season ends and another begins

Re:One season ends and another begins 12 years 4 weeks ago #21146

That is one thing that isn't much of a worry here. The soil may freeze up but its never for long ; then it thaws back out for several days at a time. Actually, last year was unusually mild and I think it didn't allow for a sufficient cold period which in turn retarded the germination. To add insult to injury, the severe drought this year then dried up and killed the majority of those seed that would have germinated later. Nature is a wonderful thing but you never know what she has up her sleeve.

Hillhopper- I think your idea of planting in NOve is agreat. I'm getting about 1/2 of my seeds in then as well. Sure hope that your stratification strategy works well, tho. Just for me, It would make me a bit nervous to sit on them that long.

Like you, getting into this in a large way has been the plan all along. I'm finding out that 8-9 lbs per acre-sized patch is what it takes. 35 lbs x 7000 seeds.... wow! That's a whole group of acres of 'sang!

I'm beginning to develop a security approach. My partnetr and I now have implimented [hopefully] effective measures to help folks from straying onto the property. We were only getting up there on weekends before.

I'd be absolutely sick to find that all our work was stolen!
