TOPIC: The beauty of the mountains

The beauty of the mountains 11 years 5 months ago #25954

Good evening fellows,
I just got back from a trip to the mountains with my Yellow Lab to see if we could flush a grouse or two and to get some last of the season pictures. The color is beautiful up there and all the grouse were hiding well. A few ginseng plants showed their selves though and made a great day for us. I hope that everyone gets a chance to get out and see all the color while it's still around.
Enjoy the pictures.
Hugh

Great pics Hugh and no better companion than a man's faithful k-9. I was just about to say that there is no better time to be in the woods than Fall but Spring is great with it's new variant shades of green and blooms as well,I spend as much time as possible there in the Summer with my Ginseng, and, when it's snowing and the wind is whistling through a forest it's awesome too. Just a great place to be in general I guess. Glad you managed to get out and enjoy.

Chicks Dig It,
You are a lucky man or a great shot if you killed a grouse with your pistol. Boy, they're fast when they come up! You'll probably find more of them in thick tight places where there are grapes or berries on vines for them to eat and stay under cover. Hawks like them pretty good too.
You really need a slow, close hunting dog that does not range too far out from you when she is hunting. They are bad to flush wild from pointers and setters that get a little too far from you. Brittany's are good Grouse dogs if you can find someone who will let you use theirs. I agree, they are a great tasting bird. Good luck, if you get a chance to hunt them this Fall.
