NICE! That one on the far right looks to have led a tough life, given it's small size compared to age. I bet the ginsenesides in it are out the roof. Also, my mortal enemy \"The Woodland Vole\" looks to have had a go at the one on the far left. I wonder how many old, fifty plus year roots have been eaten by those little bastards.

I wish I could wake up tomorrow in Shanghai with a five gallon bucket of those. Good find.

5prong,

Those are some nice and aged roots. I agree with Hillhopper, I'd like to have a bucket full and be in China.

Thanks guys. I'd be pretty happy to have a 5 gallon bucket of ones like these right here in the good ole USA:laugh:

Hopper - Your assessment of those roots having a rough life was pretty accurate. I concur that the vole was responsible for the one on the left, and possibly the one on the right as well. It's hard to tell in the pic, but the little ball root on the one on the right is actually a secondary root. The original main root is gone.... It appears that it has been missing for a while.... In fact the one on the left that is half eaten is also a secondary root. Hard to tell how old those roots actually are.

5...

Got to appreciate roots with age.

No way - NO WAY - I would sell that one on the far right. Myself I highly favor small roots with age.

I would consider keeping all of those for eating myself, but especially that tiny one on the far right. The root neck on that one probably outweighs the root itself. No doubt it is a survivor, even in less than ideal conditions it \"endeavored to persevere\"... (to borrow a phrase from Abe Lincoln and one of my favorite old movies - The Outlaw Josie Wales).

Thanks for sharing those pics.

Nice roots 5prong and congrats!

It appears to me that all of the roots have suffered damage at one time or another. If they could talk, just think of the stories that they could tell. Of course, them yelling at you not to dig them, might be a little disconcerting!:P

Wow 5 those are some nice roots for sure. Just think, roots with long necks like those that are 30 years old or more were growing when we were just young bucks back in high school if you are in your 50's like me. lol

What an amazing little plant. These pictures make me think of how I wonder how old a ginseng root could get if it wasn't dug or eaten by something. I still dream of finding a plant that is as tall as I am and that could be a couple hundred years old. I have heard stories about them but wonder if they still exist on some rocky outcrop high on a mountain where man cannot get to without climbing gear.

Thanks for posting them.
