Is your thought of putting seeds in the fridge to see if they start to crack and smile? That sounds like a good idea to find out if they will complete the stratification period. It would probably be better to wait till Oct.

I guess you should make sure the seeds in those beds are in fact dead when you go to replant, otherwise if you replant those beds this fall, you could have both batches of seeds germinating in the spring. Over crowded seedlings.

Just a thought.

classicfur,
your correct, I wanted to allow them to have enough warm period this summer before I try them in the fridge for a couple of months. I figure when I bring them back out I should have a better understanding of what is going to happen next spring. If I see no promising results then I will replant. I could just move on to another site and wait but this area is ideal and easily accessible for spraying and such if neccessary, i hate for it to go to waiste for another couple years

Here is one of my plants below that is coming up in my seed bed. I have others coming up but this one has a seed flower head forming already and the leaves are not even unfolded yet.
Also the sawdust warding off slugs theory does not work. The slugs move right across it. So I got my deadline out on the beds last night before they nibbled my plants to the bone.

I took a pick of these wild ginseng plants when I was out hunting mushrooms at lunch the other day. I knew they were there already and I have been watching them grow over the last 5 years. Not many hunt ginseng where I live so I do not think anyone will find them. They are on private property. I have planted many a wild seed from these wild plants. There are some isolated 4 prong plants growing near this tight cluster too.

I can't wait until my Wild Simulated beds look like this someday.

Also for some reason these wild plants are a little farther along than the ginseng plants in my seed bed.

Sorry for the poor pic quality. I always use my cell phone for pics and the lens is scratched and foggy.

Nice plants.

Yes, it's an accomplishment when your beds look like that. But it will come!:woohoo:

Now that sure is a nice looking 4 prong opening up there and it's amazing that it has such a berry stem developing already.

I never see that in the wild seng around here.

The roots I got from Billy are different than my local seng in that same respect. As soon as you could see the tops and leaves unfolding you could see berry stems showing up too.

Latt - on the cell phone pics - I have the same problem. I have been carrying the same phone for a little over 2 years now and I keep it in my front left pocket and have some keys and change and pocket knife in that same pocket and well all of that scratched up the camera lense until it is just useless.

We probably need to spend a little $$$ and buy us a new phone and perhaps a belt/case or something like that to keep out phones in a little better shape.

TN,
Agreed.
Nice Video's by the way. Loved seeing the planting beds doing so well!
I think the next 10 years are going to be pretty interesting for sure for many of us. I think there are many off to a great start and a couple already close to harvest in a few years.
