If your test is showing the Calcium as a saturation % , you need to find out from the testing Company what the calcium is in ppa(pounds per acre). Then you will know if you need to add gypsum.

Here's a thread that shows one of my soil tests, upper part shows calcium as a saturation % and the lower half shows it as pounds per acre.

I remember Whitjr is from NC and had the same problem with his tests from the state. If you read down that same thread it talks about the NC testing.

Maybe Whitjr can clarify how to convert the % to ppa.

If your soil was tested by the State of NC soil lab, here is a pdf on how to read the sample.

I guess I don't understand why they don't give you the calcium levels in ppa or ppm. Most test labs give you the levels instead of a saturation %.

I'm in NC as well. Free soil testing is good, and has provided me the \"opportunity\" to learn a lot more about soil chemistry. As Calssicfur as provided, there are conversion factors posted on the NC Dept of Ag website that will give you some math to do as to converting the raw value reported to PPm or PPa.

good luck!

It does real good here. Not much left in the wild though. Hope growing it will be my full time job in a couple of years.
