TOPIC: Hello from a newbie land/forest owner.

Hello from a newbie land/forest owner. 2 years 1 week ago #36420

Hi Everybody,

I am John, we just bought a new forest (about 80 acres) in upstate NY and we are roaming the land. We were looking for NTFP in the hope to grow the existing resources.

We were hopeful to find a couple of plants and mushrooms and I wanted the expert eyes to let us know if those were the real deal:

1) Ginseng: On the property we have a lot of maple trees and we spotted what looks like Ginseng but we are not sure if it is the real deal...So many look alike.

2) Reishi: The property is having a lot of very old stumps from previous ages and we might have some Reishi.

3) Golden Chanterelles: Look like there were a couple even though they were all dried up because of the season.

If anybody as some insights or advice on how to steward those in the right direction (if they are really what we think they are) it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

John.

As one newbie to another - welcome to the board.

We will answer questions but they have to be very specific. Otherwise we won't be sure what to say.

There is a website called Online Photo Editor I think. Use it to shrink your photos, then you can post them here.

Okay. Good luck.

Hi John,
Welcome to the site and welcome to owning a forest.
I'm here in the Finger Lakes Region just South of Rochester.
How far away are you? Thought I might offer some help.

That's awesome man. I've been to Upstate NY area when I went to the Adirondacks. Awesome place. Would love to hear how it goes for you
