TOPIC: Berry Pods out in full splendor

Berry Pods out in full splendor 7 years 7 months ago #39177

Went out for a few hours this morning on the 4 wheeler and rode around and tried some different ridges and hollows. I actually didn't get into it as thick as I had hoped, but man did I find some pretty ones. I'll definitely be back next week. I've never seen so many bright red berry pods still in tact. I bet I planted hundreds of seed today, and saw a lot of young patches.

Can you spot the ginseng through the baneberry? I almost walked right past this one.

That's Awesome Wildspirit44.
I checked on my best wild simulated patch yesterday. I have over 500 plants there. The plant tops are huge and the berries were all missing off the beery stem. I pulled off under 30 seeds. Not sure if it's squirrels, deer, mice or a combo of all of them. Was glad to see all the plants but was hoping for more seed. It is self seeding somewhat as I have some 1, 2, and 3 year old ginseng growing in the 5 to 6 year old wild simulated patch.
Looks like a lot of seng but considering I planted 10 lbs of seed in there only a small % made it. The ones that made it are awesome though.

Nice wild plants and berries and glad you got to plant all them seeds.

thanks latt, glad to hear your patch is going strong. It's always reassuring to run into those young patches. A lot of the seed I planted came off young 3 prongers that I didn't dig. I was kind of worried from the extremely hot and dry summer we had which apparently isn't over even yet. The tops i'm finding seem to be pretty healthy and green though for the most part. Good luck this season with your growing and harvesting.
