TOPIC: First Double Top and pics of a good hunt.

First let me say, I'm not as fortunate as Billy or TNHunter or some of the others on here to go out and found pounds at a time but yesterday I finally did some good. For the past week I have spent everyday in the woods from about 730-5 everyday and have gotten alot of new places to hunt, with permission finally, only to find that most everywhere I went, either there just wasn't any there or someone has been digging it on that location without permission for years.

I spent 5 days walking all day everyday and in those 5 days found nothing that I could dig. On my way home yesterday I stopped at a place and asked for permission to hunt just to give it a try, there was maybe 4-4.5 acres of woods total if that much and right on a main highway. Keep in mind the places I had been prior to this were plots of 300-900 acres of woods way out in the middle of nowhere. Well, the man gave me permission and asked if he could walk with me just to see what it looked like, man was in his 60's and had never heard of it being around here. 10 feet into the woods we found a monster 4 prong with a root that wieghed just over an ounce. I only got to dig for about an hour as it was getting dark but I ended up with 12.5 ounces wet and the first double top I have ever found. Here is some of what I found.

The double top plant, had a 3 prong and a 2 prong top, was only trying to dig the 3 as the 2 didn't even have a berry pod but when digging the 3 I found they were both one root.

Congrats on a great last minute find and some really nice roots! It goes to show that many folks have overlooked the location since it was so close to the road which was a plus for you. This was the same case with the biggest and most Ginseng I ever dug in one location.

I'm going to spend most my day today going and asking for permission to get on some land with smaller woods that I have thought about but just never checked. Out here where I live now there are houses everywhere. You can not get in the woods and walk more than a mile in any direction without coming out on another road or in someones back yard. It makes for some very hard hunting.

Congrats glad to c u getting in to some nice shang. Nice roots. It never hurts to ask the way I look at it you've got a 50 50 chance.
